UN must fight terrorism, stand firm against nuclear ambitions -- Bush

NEW YORK, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- In his eighth and final speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President George W. Bush said the international community must stand firm against the nuclear ambitions of Iran and North Korea, and must actively fight global terrorism.

And despite past disagreements over the U.S.-led war in Iraq, Bush urged members of the United Nations to help the struggling democracy succeed.

His Highness Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammed al-Ahmed al-Sabah was present for the Bush speech, as well as the opening session of the 63rd UN General Assembly.

Bush criticized Russia for its invasion of Georgia last month. "Young democracies around the world are watching to see how we respond to this test," Bush said, referring to Georgia.
