Google Android phone to be unveiled next week by T-Mobile

The mobile industry is about to get a whole lot more interesting...

T-Mobile's let slip that the world's first Android mobile phone will be unveiled in New York on the 23rd of September, however didn't mention whether it will be the HTC handset we've seen leaked photos of.

The Android phone - whatever it's unveiled as - will be one of the most important handsets ever launched, as it will be the first truly open source mobile platform in existence.

Several companies belonging to the Open Handset Alliance have pledged they'll help build Android platform-enabled handsets, including Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm and T-Mobile.

Rumoured to be called the Dream, or G1, all shall be revealed in New York on the 23rd of September. Meanwhile, take a look at the latest "leaked" photos in the gallery to the right. With its QWERTY keyboard and slide-out screen, it's not exactly a rival to the iPhone's beauty, unfortunately.
